The Barbarians Are Coming

There is a coffee shop not too far from where I live. It is there I like to spend my mornings. Their outdoor patio is surrounded by bushes and scraggly trees that house plenty of noisy birds. I bring my iPad. Before the election, I would read the news. Now, I studiously avoid the news and watch YouTube.
I love YouTube. I am astounded that millions of people around the globe spend their time and money offering advice, instruction, entertainment, humor…let’s face it. They offer up anything you can imagine and a whole bunch more.
This morning, I found Laurie Anderson. I knew nothing of her. Her talent and intellect are so big that I feel like I should have been hearing about her for years. But unfortunately, they came wrapped in a package of a pretty, petite woman, so surprise-surprise, it was not taken seriously. She’s still pretty and petite, but now she’s old and fierce.
I listened to her performance of "The Barbarians Are Coming" several times and was blown away. The beat is haunting, and the message is current and addictive…almost like the news.
