Stepping Back

Stepping Back
In The Loop by Jay Govan

We had our first Ranch-Mates Meeting post-election. The meeting was called by ML to begin Plan B discussions but Stacy and Ryan ran the show…meaning we had fairy lights pinned to the walls and ceiling, we had hot toddies despite the 80-degree day, and lots of competing Alexas playing Christmas carols. I walked in dreading the get-together and walked out drunk and happy.

I read in the NYT the other day that church/community leaders are giving black women a pause—a chance to soothe and heal. They say stepping back from the fight doesn’t mean desertion.

I’m giving myself the same permission. Can you?
